Obituary

Thomas Bennett Scott, 79, of Duluth, GA, passed away following an extensive illness July 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.

Born May 28, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Tivis Scott, Sr. and Ruth Bennett Scott. He was the husband of June Conn Scott whom he married June 7, 1958.

He graduated from Gulf Port High School in 1953. He was an operating engineer in Baltimore, MD for 50 years. He contributed to significant construction projects such as the William Preston Lane, Jr. Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Francis Scott Key Memorial Bridge, 6 St. Paul Place and numerous other buildings. He served as a tank operator in the Army National Guard from 1964-1968. He enjoyed serving others by volunteering in several ministries such as There's Hope for the Hungry of First Redeemer Baptist Church, Disaster Relief of the North American Mission Board; Habitat for Humanity and on various mission trips. He was a member of First Baptist Church Atlanta.

A loving father and husband, he is survived by his wife, June Conn Scott, his children Susan E. (Scott) and Glenn Childress, of Alpharetta, GA, Keith Conn Scott of Atlanta, GA, his granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Childress and his brother John Tivis Scott, Jr. of Baltimore, MD.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 8 at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA 30075. (678) 335-4757.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at Northside Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
