BREWER – Mr. John Robert Brewer, 94, of Alpharetta, died December 13, 2009. He was born April 7, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of George Henry and Augusta Frances (Carden) Brewer. One of six children, he was the last surviving sibling. During World War II, Mr. Brewer served in the Army’s Infantry Division, being one of the first draftees out of Atlanta. He was assigned duty as a guard for the German saboteurs in Washington, D.C. prior to being shipped out to Tacoma, WA for overseas duty. He received a Medal of Good Conduct and the American Theater Service Award Medal. It was at this time that he met and married Pauline Fogg, his wife of 67 years, who also worked on the saboteur trials. Mr. Brewer was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and boating. He was also a sports enthusiast and closely followed the Atlanta baseball and football teams. He retired from General Motors. Afterwards he opened his own automobile repair business. He was a member of the Masons, and Sons of the Confederacy. A loving grandfather of five, Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife Pauline, son Bobby (Dana), grandchild Elizabeth, great grandchild Nathan of Alpharetta, and daughter Cheryl (Eric), grandchildren Laura and John of Roswell, and Jeffrey (Suzanne) of Salem, Oregon, and one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his brothers Oscar and Russell, and sisters Nannie Lou, Pauline, and Ruby. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, Roswell, Georgia 30075, www.northsidechapel.com, 770/645-1414.
