Betty Etheridge Cheek, 76, of Woodstock, GA, was gathered up by angels and taken home on very early on January 15 after long suffering but a short illness. The separation ends as Betty rejoined her husband of 52 years, Major Bryson, who went home in 2005. Betty lived all of her life in Georgia, from Lawrenceville growing up to Roswell during her early married years to Woodstock for almost 40 years. She served family and friends all of her life, especially dedicating herself to her husband and two children.
A long-time member, Betty dearly loved her spiritual family at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church in Woodstock. Throughout the years, she devoted herself to supporting Mt. Gilead through thick and thin, working tirelessly even up until her final illness. Her faith and love of God never waivered and she offered the greatest grace and acceptance for any of God’s children.
Words cannot express the loss that Betty’s earthly family feels at this time. Betty is survived by a son, Michael Bryson Cheek of Woodstock; a daughter, Amy Margaret Cheek-Galloway of Woodstock; a grandson, Dalton Randall Major Galloway of Woodstock; a sister, Julia Ann Wethington of Stockbridge; and two brothers, Jack Etheridge of Blairsville and Rick Etheridge of Jacksonville, FL. Betty is also survived by so many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends who will miss helping her with a jigsaw puzzle or playing cards into the night.
The family will welcome all from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 16 at Northside Chapel in Roswell. Services will be at Northside Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. A brief graveside service will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell. While flowers are welcome, the family also encourages memorial gifts be sent to Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association.
