Mrs. Elizabeth Raines Woodring Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elizabeth Raines Woodring, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and friend, died on Wednesday, June 15 at the age of 64 after a long 8-month battle with MMMT (Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor) or uterine carcinosarcoma. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Bill, her only daughter, Carlee, and her son-in-law, Andrew. Liz was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 26, 1957, to her adoring parents, Shirlee Dover Raines and James Arthur Raines (Jim). She later became an older sister to Lee and Jim Raines. Her dad worked for the YMCA, so they moved all over the southeast. Even as a child, Liz knew how to make a friend wherever she went. She took the stage as a lead singer with her sister in their family singing group, The Rainedrops, and she never stopped singing. She sang in every place she laid her roots, which is how she met her husband, Bill. She saw him singing in the choir at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama and knew she was going to marry him. They married a few years later and eventually moved to their forever home in Alpharetta, GA. In May of 1997, they welcomed their only child, Carlee, and continued to instill their love of music in her. Liz dedicated her life to loving others. She was heavily involved in every school organization she could be a part of as Carlee grew up, from Yearbook Committee in elementary school to PTSA President and Marching Band Uniform mom in high school. All the while, she taught preschool music, she sang in every church choir she could, she volunteered as a children’s choir director at her church, she taught preschool art, and she still had time to be the best wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Liz will join her father, Jim Raines, in heaven. She will be survived by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Carlee, her mother, Shirlee, her sister, Lee, her brother, Jim, her nieces Maggie, Zoe, Anna, and Nell, her nephew Ryan, her 5 great nieces and nephews, and countless friends from her 64 years on this earth. A service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 23 at Johns Creek United Methodist Church in Johns Creek, GA. All are welcome so please come ready to sing for our dear Liz. After the service, a gathering will be held starting at 5:00 pm at the Standard Club in Johns Creek, GA to celebrate the incredible life of our dear Liz. Liz’s wish was to be cremated and will be inurned at a later date. For now, she will remain with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Liz’s memory to UAB GYN/ONC Arend Research fund at go.uab.edu/arend or please make checks payable to UAB and mail to UAB Gift Records, AB 1230, 1720 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL, 35294-0112. This which will directly fund research being done at UAB on Liz’s cancer, MMMT or GCS by Dr. Rebecca Arend.
