Mrs. Marie Kay Benson Lyon

August 23, 1925 - March 16, 2022

Marie Kay Benson Lyon, 96, of Dawsonville, formerly of Alpharetta, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 following a period of declining health. Born August 23, 1925 to the late Walter and Effie Harben Kay. Marie was a long-time resident of Alpharetta. Following the death of her first husband, Forrest Benson, Marie enjoyed living in her new home in Sun Center, Florida for many years. While in Florida, Marie met Dr. Laverne Lyon in their church. They married and enjoyed traveling and sharing stories with friends. Dr. Lyon passed away suddenly in 2014. Not being able to live alone, Marie moved back to Alpharetta and resided at Addington Place Assisted Living until 2021 when she moved to Dawsonville to be closer to relatives. Marie was a proud graduate of Cumming High School and a 1948 graduate of Berry College. Marie retired from Fulton County Tax Assessors office after more than 30 years of service. After retirement she worked for Sawnee EMC for a period of time. Marie was a member of Alpharetta First Baptist Church and also Trinity Baptist Church of Sun City, Florida. Marie loved reading her Bible and religious publications. Marie was also preceded in death by her husbands, Forrest Benson and Dr. Laverne Lyons, sister-in-law, Irene Kay. Marie is survived by her brother Harben Kay, care givers, James and Jane Swafford, cousins and other relatives. A special thanks to Mavis Chiyambiro for all the loving and wonderful care she provided for Marie. Thanks to Agape Hospice for the great services, they provided. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Alpharetta.
