May 4, 1926 - August 13, 2020
Myrtle A. Buckley, 94 years young, passed away peacefully at Sunrise in Huntcliff Summit Senior Living on August 13, 2020. Affectionately known as Myrt, she was born in Naugatuck, Connecticut, on May 4, 1926, to Rev. Albert J. and Marquerite Bengtson. Raised in Connecticut and Detroit, she met and married her one true love in 1946, returning US Marine Maron L. Buckley. Together they were founding members of the Dearborn Evangelical Covenant Church and upon retirement were members of the Cheboygan Covenant Church. Maron and Myrt remained married for 60 years and had four children, Allen (Janet) Buckley, Robb (Pam) Buckley, Logan (Kathlyn Coffey) Buckley, and Donna (Gordon) Peterson. Myrt was pre-deceased by her husband, Maron Buckley, parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Albert Bengtson, and two sisters, Marion Bergstrom and Marquerite Frederickson. She is survived by her sister Allison (Jim) Evans, twelve grandchildren and their spouses and twelve great-grandchildren. Maron and Myrt resided in suburban Detroit. After their children were raised Myrt began working for the Livonia Public Schools. Starting at Franklin High School, she went on to become executive assistant to Dr. Dale Collier at Stevenson High School. She retired to Indian River and later Cheboygan, and Dearborn, Michigan. Myrt was a devout Christian and a lifetime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She was a grace filled and loving mother who enjoyed volunteer work though her churches, singing in the church choir, and gardening. Her greatest sources of joy were serving her Lord Jesus Christ, her husband and her family. Though her family was scattered around the country, she never ceased to pray for all of us and we are eternally thankful. We are greatly appreciative for BJ, Victoria, Zatania, Dominique, Katie, Brianna, Jennifer, Sherron, Lillia, and Sue, and the many others who blessed Mom with their caring spirits and concern for her health and welfare during her final years at Sunrise Huntcliff Summit. A private family funeral will be held in Michigan at a date yet to be determined. At this time we request any memorial donations may be made to the Cheboygan Evangelical Church (https://www.covchurchgiving.com/p-3316-memorial-gifts.aspx) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
