Obituary

Amy Virginia Adams Crawford, 96, of Roswell, GA. peacefully transitioned from this life to her eternal heavenly home on December 14, 2023. Born in Shellman, GA on August 8, 1927, Amy was the firstborn of 4 daughters to Walter and Virginia Adams. Her entrance into this world was an especially joyous one as her mother's father, Leroy Crittenden the town's doctor, delivered baby Amy in the loving environment of her parent's home.
Amy moved to Alpharetta, GA with her parents and two sisters at the time, Jean and Mary Ann when she was 11 years old. Amy often told the story of how a brick was warmed in the fireplace then placed at their feet on the floorboard of the car to help keep the girls warm as they made the trip from South Georgia during the depression for her father to take a job teaching and later a principal position with Fulton County Schools. A few years later, Amy's youngest sister, Effie, was born. Soon after, the family moved from Alpharetta to Roswell where at the age of 12, Amy was confirmed as a member of Roswell Presbyterian Church. She remained a continuous member there for the rest of her life serving God and others in numerous capacities. It was at this church where she married her husband of 58 years, Thomas Irby Crawford and baptized each of her 4 children, Ginger, Louise, Walter, and Lydia.
Amy's life was characterized by a selfless love of serving others through her gentle spirit which she did at home, at church, in her neighborhood, and community. Amy never wanted to be the center of attention, but humbly gave and served in a way that seemed to flow effortlessly from her heart.
While Amy and Tom raised their children together, Amy was a homemaker in addition to working outside her home. Her associate degree in Business from Georgie College for Women lead her into being a teller at banks and a bookkeeper. Her longest work history was in the accounting department of Defense Contracts for the federal government.
Amy's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and commitment to God and to her family. She always loved, accepted, encouraged, supported, guided, nurtured her 4 children and their spouses, her 6 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren and their spouses, and 7 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. It will be these loved ones and extended family who will cherish Amy's legacy and be forever grateful they had her for such a long life. The words most often said in describing Amy were these, "Amy is the sweetest and most loving person I know". And she was. Her legacy is the way she modeled a Christ-centered way of loving others.
