Mrs. Anna Mae Buckle passed away February 25, 2023 at age 93. She is survived by her four children — James Buckle III, Peter Buckle and wife Wanda, Anne Marie Shipman and husband James, and Patricia Thompson and husband Kevin — her sister Joan Sheehan and her brother Peter Finnerty, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband James Francis Buckle Jr., mother Alice Bannon (Finnerty), father Peter Finnerty and her sister Regina Finnerty.
Born May 7, 1929 in Harrison, New Jersey, Anna Mae married her husband James in 1950. They would go on to celebrate 60 years of marriage. They were blessed with two boys, James and Peter, and later adopted Anne Marie and Patricia. The family relocated from New Jersey to Georgia in the late 1960s. Anna Mae was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta from 1980 to 2013, serving as a eucharistic minister for many years. In 2013, following her husband's death, Anna Mae moved to Davenport, Florida, to live with her daughter Anne and husband James, where she resided until her death.
Her funeral service will be held March 6 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (535 Rucker Rd.) in Alpharetta, Georgia. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m. with service following. Anna Mae will be laid to rest with her husband James at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. She will be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and for her strong Catholic faith.
