Obituary

Mrs. Arline Cogdill Mason, age 98, of Cocoa, Florida, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023. Arline was born on August 30, 1924 in Neuberts, Tennessee, the daughter of the late B.A. and Linda Cogdill.
Arline loved Florida and lived most of her life there. While in Tampa as a young adult, she married Richard H. Mason and the couple moved to Cocoa Beach. After their son, Richard Henry Mason, Jr. was born, they made their home on the Indian River for many years.
Arline lived a very long and interesting life filled with many things that she was passionate about. She was an avid reader, lover of nature and was a member of the Rockledge Garden Club. She also enjoyed her time volunteering at the Martin Anderson Senior Center and Catherine Schweinsberg Library. Arline taught fourth grade in Brevard County for over forty years and had such a great love of teaching that, upon retirement, she was one of the oldest teachers in the school system. In the years following retirement, Arline enjoyed entertaining and playing bridge with her friends.
Fifty years ago, Arline became a member of the Episcopal Church, first joining St. Marks in Cocoa and in later life, St. Luke's in Merritt Island where she was always a ready and willing volunteer. Arline traveled the world with dear friends from the church and with family visiting England, Scotland, Italy, and Germany.
Along with her parents, Arline is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Mason, her son, Richard, and her two sisters, Ursa Greenland and Doreen Schwartz. She is survived by her grandson, Richard Henry Mason, III, daughter-in-law, loving nieces and nephews, and many friends.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Arline Mason will take place at one o' clock in the afternoon on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5555 North Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, Florida. A reception in the church hall will follow the conclusion of the service at St. Luke's Cemetery.
