Austin Courtenay Brightman, Jr., aged 82, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away on July 28, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who modeled kindness and generosity in his everyday life, inspiring all those who knew him.
From the time he was in 4th grade, Austin's ambition was to serve in the military. He attended high school at Culver Military Academy in Indiana and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1963. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and in the civil service after his retirement from the military. He remained a constant scholar of military history, with a particular interest in the U.S. Civil War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise and Austin C. Brightman, Sr.; and his brother, Allan Brightman. Austin is survived by his wife, Stella Brightman; son, Jason Brightman; daughter and son-in-law Eleni and Adam Berger; grandson, Alec Berger; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Carol Brightman; sister-in-law Patricia Brightman, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Austin's life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Northside Chapel at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Those wishing may make donations to The Wounded Warrior Project.
