Barbara C. Baylor, age 73, of Marietta, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Born on October 21, 1950, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late L. Victor and Louise Crist, Jr.
Barbara met the love of her life, Will, while attending Hagerstown Junior College. Their journey together continued as Barbara pursued her education at Towson University (later part of the University of Maryland) and Will at Shepherd University. Both became dedicated educators in early childhood education. After marrying in 1972, they purchased a home near Barbara's parents in Hagerstown in 1975. Their family grew with the birth of Jennifer (Jenny) in 1977 and Adam in 1980.
Barbara and Will made a significant move in 1979 to Marietta, Georgia, where, while pursuing her Georgia teaching certificate, she lovingly stayed at home with her children. Her career in education spanned 41 years, with 36 years at Mabry Middle School in Marietta, where she became known for her enthusiasm for spelling and geography bees. Barbara was instrumental in organizing and coordinating spelling bees at the local, state, and national levels. She took pride in her involvement in the Cobb County Association of Educators and the Georgia Association of Educators, where she was a tireless advocate for teachers. She was also passionate about painting, music, and singing.
Barbara retired in 2016 to focus on caring for her parents and cherishing time with her grandchildren. Her legacy of love and commitment to her family and her profession will be fondly remembered.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband, Will; her children, Jenny McKenzie and Adam Baylor; and her cherished grandchildren, Bryson, Brady, and Caitlin.
