Obituary

Barbara Padgett Chapman, age 75 of Woodstock passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Dallas, North Carolina to L.H. and Lois Padgett. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and devoted woman of faith. Throughout her illness, Barbara faced each day with remarkable courage, dignity and grace, offering an enduring example of strength and trust in God to all who knew her. She had a compassionate spirit and a steady presence, always ready with words of encouragement and a listening heart. Her care for others was sincere and generous, and she touched many lives simply by being herself. To her family and friends, she was a source of inspiration, comfort, and unwavering love.
Barbara found great joy in being with people, spending time outdoors, and tending her garden -activities that reflected her nurturing nature and appreciation for God's creation. She was an active and faithful member of Antioch Christian Church and Alpharetta Methodist Church, serving in several capacities at both, including as an usher at Alpharetta Methodist Church. Friendship was one of Barbara's greatest gifts, and she especially cherished time spent at luncheons with three treasured groups: her garden club friends, her fellow church girlfriends, and the Golden Girls group in her neighborhood. These friendships brought her laughter, connection, and deep fulfillment.
Barbara's greatest pride and joy were her four grandchildren. She delighted in nurturing those relationships and treasured every moment spent with them. She also dearly loved her faithful dog, Max, who was as a constant companion and source of comfort.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Paul Padgett. Her surviving family includes her husband, Dennis Chapman; her son Mitchell Wheeler and daughter-in-law Leslie Wheeler; her daughter Kimberly Tallant Bunn and son-in-law Greg Bunn; four grandchildren—Carina Wheeler, Sam Wheeler, Evie Wheeler, and Aislin Bunn; and her sisters Diane Herndon (Larry), Karon Breazeale (Mark), and Linda Hicks (Ted). Barbara will be remembered for her faith, warmth, and gentle strength in loving others. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service and grace that will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested that donations be made to Antioch Christian Church.
