Bernd was once described by his co-worker as larger than life. Bernhard Kiemes, age 69 of Alpharetta, GA died at his home surrounded by family on Sunday January 4th 2026 at 1:34 am after a year-long battle with cancer.
He was born in Saarwellingen, Germany in 1956 to Gerta and Pius. After high school, he went on to graduate from the University of Kaiserslautern with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He then started his career at Siemens and after 30 years of dedication he went on to work for Primetals for another 10 years until his passing.
Bernd first met the love of his life, Ulrike, in 1978 and 5 years later they married on July 23rd 1983 in Saarwellingen, Germany and went on to have two sons together. Eleven months after welcoming their first son, Maximilian, they moved from Germany to the United States and settled down in Alpharetta, GA where they still reside today. Two years after moving to America, they were blessed with their second son Johannes.
Bernd was preceded in death by his father Pius, his mother Gerta, his brother Dieter, his sister Erika, and his son Johannes. He is survived by his wife Ulrike, his son Maximilian, and son's partner Tivoli.
He will be loved and missed by those who knew him and his memory will always live on in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church on Saturday January 10th at 2 PM. Address is 180 Academy St, Alpharetta, GA 30009.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bernd's honor to the Memorial Garden Fund at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church where his ashes will be laid to rest.
