Carlos Moreno Gutierrez, devoted father and loved member of the cycling community, passed away on October 19th, 2025. Carlos was enjoying a solo ride on Sugar Pike Rd, where he frequently rode, when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. Despite this tragedy, Carlos left this world doing what he loved, with his family in mind. Carlos lived in Alpharetta, Georgia with his children, and originally immigrated from his hometown of Seville, Spain.
Carlos studied Industrial Design at Universidad Nuevo Mundo in Mexico City. Carlos was the doting and proud parent of four highly accomplished children: Andrea (25), Nicole (22), Lucia (18), and Alejandro (16). His summers were spent in the Spanish town of St. Augustine, Florida with his family, where they surfed, laughed, and loved each other deeply by the sea. His heart was always full of joy and kindness, with a quiet demeanor but a profound impact on all those he encountered- his children being at the forefront of his pride in every conversation.
Aside from his family, cycling was therapeutic for Carlos, and he found community and a place of belonging within several cycling groups- Webb Bridge Cycling Club, Cycle Alpharetta, Olde Blind Dog, to name a few. Carlos rode fast and focused in several fundraiser rides such as All For One, Saint Paddy O'Pedal, Georgia 400, and many more. Carlos was pushing to accomplish his goal of riding 10,000 miles in 2025. At his time of death, he had ridden 7,400 miles in 2025, and a total of 42,664 miles since 2017. Carlos was a gentle and kind soul who never left a cyclist behind.
A service for Carlos will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. The service will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
