Charles Isaac Mehaffey, 97, of Roswell, Georgia died peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 14 years to the day his wife Barbara preceded him in death. He was born on October 31,1927 in Atlanta, Georgia to Isaac Homer Mehaffey and Beulah Martha Karr.
Charles served in the U.S. Army in Japan at the end of WWII. He went to Osaka and then transferred to the U.S. Army Signal Corps School in Yokohama and became an instructor. After leaving Japan, he maintained the military radio station at Presidio Army Base in San Francisco, California. Charles went on to work in furniture sales for Charles S. Martin and Rich's in Atlanta.
"Pops" as he was lovingly called, never complained, lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Pullen Mehaffey, brothers, Homer Paschal "Pat" Mehaffey and George Young Mehaffey and his parents. Survivors include his later in life love of 13 years, Carole Forrest of Gainesville, GA; two sons, Charles Steven Mehaffey (Susie) of Gulf Breeze, FL and George Michael Mehaffey (Vickie), of Foley, AL; daughter, Sharon Ann Mehaffey Pettway of Foley, AL; three grandchildren, Kane Steven Mehaffey (Kendall), Sugar Land, TX, Kerry Hope Mehaffey Price (Scott) Birmingham, AL, and Evan Wyatt Mehaffey (Brittany) of Edmond, OK; six great grandchildren, Mark Hudson Mataya, Ava Kate Mataya, Piper Grey Mehaffey, Prim Adeline Mehaffey, Hudson Wyatt Mehaffey and Grayson James Mehaffey. He is also survived by Carole's loving children; Brian and Shannon Forrest, Lynn and Denis Nisbett, Denise and Steve Avery and Bob and Ginger Forrest and their children and grandchildren.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rolf Meinhold for his longtime care and compassion as he approached his end of life. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 11:00-12:00pm with the funeral beginning at 12:00pm at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory 12050 Crabapple Road Roswell, GA 30075. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
