Colonel (Retired) Jerry Wesley Ginn, age 82, of Sharpsburg, Georgia passed away Saturday, 14 December 2024. Jerry was born February 16, 1942, in Albany, Georgia the son to the late James Wesley and Marjorie Porter.
Jerry spent his youth with his brother and sister in Sasser, Georgia. After graduating High School he would attend North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia where he would graduate and commission as a 2nd Lieutentant in the United States Army. Jerry spent 30 years in service to his country as both an Infantry and Aviation officer retiring at the rank of Colonel. He served in many locations in the US and overseas, include two combat tours in Vietnam. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star among other awards. Following a distinguished military career, Jerry worked alongside his brother to build a successful Defense Contracting business where he continued providing service and support to the Army.
Jerry was a kind and caring individual who had a knack for connecting with people and he touched many lives. Always willing to help others, Jerry would often go to extraordinary lengths to ensure others received support or assistance. He knew how to pool and distribute resources to those that needed it most. His desire to help others did not stop with people and Jerry was known to have many four-legged friends at his home. Jerry spent his later days constantly surrounded by those that needed his attention and support.
Along with his parents Jerry was proceeded in death by his sister Helen Christie. He is survived by his brother Colonel (Retired) James P Ginn; wife Dorlene Ginn; son, Patrick Ginn; son, John Ginn; daughter, Dana Rollins; stepson, Michael Marsau; stepson, Ryan Marsau; stepson, Garrett Jordan Ginn; nine (9) Grandchildren and three (3) Step-Grandchildren.
The military honors to commemorate the life and service of Colonel (Retired) Jerry Wesley Ginn will be Friday, 31 January 2025 at 1:30pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
