In Loving Memory of Cole "Danger" Dobbs

Cole Dobbs, (22), beloved son of Debbie Dobbs, nee Cuthbertson, and Brooks Dobbs of Alpharetta, GA, passed away in Atlanta, GA, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Cole was born in Decatur, GA on May 20th, 2000 at Dekalb Medical Center. Those that knew Cole knew that he was ahead of schedule for most everything. He was flipping himself out of cribs and running in to see his babysitting grandmother by the age of 18 months. By 4 he was a Starbucks regular who would be vocally upset if a tall was substituted for his preferred grande. By the age of 6 the neighbors were treated to a BMX ramp set up in the front lawn launching Cole over his outstretched father. Three years later he would be one of the youngest BMX riders at Camp Woodward with other aspiring extreme sports athletes (all while dealing with type-1 diabetes which he developed at age 1).

If it was extreme Cole tried it, and if he tried it he would undoubtedly be good at it. Cole was a skateboarder, a longboarder, a surfer, a skier, a snowboarder, a one wheeler, a unicycle rider, a kayaker, a park BMXer, a parkour athlete (and instructor), a Milton record holder spring diver, a skydiver and, most passionately, a Milton cirque athlete, where he made lifelong friendships. Cole also excelled academically, graduating Milton High School as an honors student and was scheduled to graduate this summer with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech.

But anyone who spent any amount of time with Cole knew his true passion was automobiles and driving. Driving was where Cole's exceptional grasp of physics and engineering, innate talent, literally thousands of hours of sim training and a total and complete lack of fear created a freak of nature. Cole's love of all things automotive could at times both infuriate an engineer with the minutiae of arguments relating to the potential loss of structural rigidity in a 911 cabriolet and impress professional drivers with his ability to eek out every hundredth of a lateral G that a tire and car combo could provide.

Cole was relentlessly uncompromising and gave 100% to every hobby he pursued from chess to guitar and provided no quarter to anyone who dared to undertake a pastime casually. The refrain we heard consistently from so very many friends was that Cole was unapologetically Cole. And sadly if we could identify Cole's greatest shortcoming, it was his inability to comprehend the depth of these same friendships.

Cole may not have fully comprehended that he had so many dear friends that ranged from pack'n play mates to retirees. This breadth of friendships was due in no small part to his love of engaging with people. His analytical, fact driven passion for a hardline debate was also commonly preceded by a gleam in his eye and a kind smile. As infuriatingly argumentative as you might have found Cole, you could always eventually find common ground - so long as you agreed to the superiority of medium grilled ribeye and an Islay scotch to all other forms of sustenance.

But one thing that was never up for debate was that Cole's greatest sense of pride came from his job as driving instructor at the Atlanta Porsche Experience Center. Cole loved his job, his co-workers and the brand he represented. Cole took equal measures of joy in seeing a complete novice feel the thrill of a launch controlled acceleration to watching an already strong driver get just a little bit better from a coaching tip. His deep seated desire to see others experience the same passions he felt so deeply made Cole the person he was.

Cole is preceded in death by grandparents Bruce and Ann Cuthbertson and uncle Brent Cuthbertson. Also survived by his grandparents Sue and Jeff Dobbs of Roswell, GA; his uncle Allen Cuthbertson of Calgary, Alberta, his aunt Kim Cuthbertson of Goderich, Ontario Canada, his uncle Mike and aunt Leah Dobbs of Avondale Estates, GA; his uncle Matt and aunt Beth Dobbs of Woodstock, GA; and his cousins, Nate and Katie Dobbs, Meghan Salain, Amelia and Poppy Dobbs, and Quinn Cuthbertson.

Cole is also survived by their family cat, Sheldon—for whom Cole also served as a trusted advisor in Sheldon's long term feline pursuit of world domination.

Cole's life will be celebrated at the Porsche Experience Center on Sunday, March 12th from noon to 2:30. PLEASE NOTE: The guard gate at the Experience Center needs a list of everyone who will be in attendance.
