David Mapp Arthur, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023. Born to the late Francis Mapp and Elizabeth Ann Barnes Arthur on April 24, 1948 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, David was a 1967 graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. After high school, he attended Chesapeake College followed by East Tennessee State University, where he excelled as a student athlete. After college, he continued to dedicate his life to sports; coaching basketball at the University of Pikeville and Milligan College, spearheading the basketball program at Steed College as founding head coach, and coaching baseball at Virginia Commonwealth University. He later became a resident of Mandeville, LA for several years before retiring to Alpharetta, GA.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed competing on the Amateur Golf Tour, had an admiration for all animals - especially his dogs - as well as classic cars, and loved going to the movies for Jujubes. His eccentric personality and sense of humor were truly one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
David is survived by his partner Marilyn Pattison; three brothers Robert, William, and James Arthur; son Robert Trent Arthur (Meghan); step-children of Diane Urmann, Eileen Hayter (Jamie), Micheal Urmann (Rachelle) and Kyle Urmann (Rania); grandchildren Sydney Keller (Eric), and Zachary, Elizabeth, Emma and Carter Arthur; and great-grandchild Pierce Arthur.
