Donald Wayne Cain Sr., affectionately known as "Jo Joe" to his family, was born on December 20, 1947, in Leonard, Texas, to Roy and Dorothy Cain. He was the fifth of seven siblings. He passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2026, at the age of 78. While his family deeply mourns his loss, they celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished most.
A resident of Georgia for 43 years, Don lived a life marked by determination, perseverance, and integrity.
Don was a man who showed his love through actions rather than words. He was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether family needed advice, support, or simply someone to listen, he was there. His greatest pride and joy was his family, and nothing brought him more happiness than being with those he loved. He fondly held onto memories of gathering at the Irving house, spending time at Bagwell, and the Thanksgiving traditions that brought everyone together in recent years.
To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Texas, he wasn't just Grandpa - he was lovingly known as "Grandpa from Georgia." He treasured every moment with them, creating memories that will be carried forward for generations. His steady presence was a source of comfort, strength, and unconditional love throughout their lives.
Don began his career with Kelly Springfield Tire Company, loading tires onto trucks while attending school. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced in the tire industry and ultimately became a Regional Sales Manager with Toyo Tires. He took great pride in providing for his family and in his professional accomplishments. Even after suffering a stroke that led to his disability and retirement, Don faced life's challenges with resilience and courage.
Outside of work and into retirement, Don never met a bargain he didn't want to investigate. He loved antiquing, visiting flea markets, and searching for hidden treasures. He also cherished time spent at the Cabin in Hiawassee, which he named the Rocky Mountain Lodge. He poured years into carefully selecting unique furniture and one-of-a-kind pieces, shaping it into a warm, welcoming retreat filled with character. He was proud of his collection of antique clocks and took immense joy in having them restored and bringing them back to life. A true car enthusiast, he loved muscle cars and owned several GTOs over the years. His prized possession was his 1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 Ram Air III, that he had faithfully restored and held onto for 32 years. He also had a deep love for country music and could often be found singing along in the car or just relaxing at home listening to his favorite songs. Don also loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed riding whenever he could. He was a devoted NASCAR fan and found great enjoyment in hunting and fishing.
Those who knew Don will remember his warm smile, generous spirit, and deep love for family. He had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome and valued. His stories, laughter, and quiet acts of kindness left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara Cain. Together, they shared a special bond that was admired by everyone who knew them. They were inseparable, and friends and family often joked that they were "Velcroed at the hip." They knew they were meant for each other when they discovered on their first date that they were both left-handed and shared a love for popcorn, Diet Coke, and Blue Bell ice cream. Their marriage was built on friendship, laughter, devotion, and a love that remained steadfast throughout the years. When Mutt Lee, their beloved Yorkipoo, came into their lives, he fit right in - happily sharing their love for popcorn and ice cream and filling their home with an extra measure of joy and companionship.
He is also survived by his daughters, Julie Moore (Mike), and Heather Cain; his bonus children, Sean Harrison (Oakley), and Lee Harrison (Jay); his grandchildren, Aaron McClain (Ciara), Miranda Parrent (Clay); his bonus grandchildren, Ashton, Avery, Sofia, Olivia, Nolan, and Scarlet; his great-grandchildren, Zachary, Lyric, Maylee, Sofia, and Kayce; his brother, James Cain (Terry); his sister, Judy Withers (Mike); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Roy Cain ("Daddy Roy"); his mother, Dorothy Cain ("Dot Dot"); his son, Donald Wayne Cain Jr. ("Little Joe"); his sister, Joan Dixon; and his brothers, Freddy, Jerry, and Tony Cain.
A life well lived leaves a legacy that never fades. Don's legacy is one of love, family, hard work, and a heart that always put others first. Don will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
