Obituary

Donald "Don" Madison Brown, affectionately known as "Diggie," passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love and a family that will continue for generations to come.
Don began working at Sears in 1950 and went on to build a successful career with the company until his comfortable retirement in 1993. In the years that followed, he embraced retirement fully — finding joy in playing poker, golfing, and traveling.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Ruth Boyd Brown, with whom he shared an extraordinary marriage of seventy years. Together they built a life of unconditional love and created a home where family was everything and everyone was welcome.
Don was a devoted father to Donna Brown McClure and Russell Keith Brown. His greatest joy came from watching his family grow and celebrating each milestone alongside them.
In his later years, he was proudly known as "Diggie" to his grandchildren, Taylor McClure Boyanton (Zach), Kellyn McClure Hambrick (Trey), Tyler Brown (Brooklyn), Chandler Formby (Brandon Brown) Anabelle Cooper (Clay), and Leila Brown. He treasured each of them and delighted in the unique blessings they brought to his life. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren Jeb Tyler Brown, Sawyer Brown, Noa Lou Brown, Finley Formby, and Charlie Hambrick who brought him immeasurable happiness. Their laughter, energy, and love filled his later years with tremendous pride and joy.
Don is survived by his brother, Rayford Vernon Brown and sister-in-law, Betty Black Brown as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Those who knew him will remember his love, his steadfast character, his quiet wisdom, and the gentle strength he shared so freely. He led by example with hard work, loyalty, kindness, and generosity. His life was a testament to the importance of family, and the memories he created with them will be cherished forever.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the love he gave so freely and in the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
