Donna Elaine Rucker Dobson passed peacefully at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was 80 years old.
Longtime resident of Roswell, born in Crabapple she was a dedicated member of Roswell First Baptist Church and more recently Grace Community Church. She is preceded in death by her parents Horace and Deryle Rucker and her grandson Garrett Reed Dobson.
Donna is survived by her loving and caring husband Johnny Dobson of 59 years. Sister Joan Anderson (Larry), brothers Kenney Rucker (Debbie) and Lamar Rucker (Eddie), brothers-in-law Rex Grizzle (Olivia), Richard Dobson (Darlene), sisters-in-law, Debbie Conrad (Bill), Jan Pope (Darryl) and Beneta Harold (Nathan). Sons, Michael Dobson (Heidi), Bryan Dobson (Linda), daughter-in-law Cherie South Dobson, who remained a steadfast part of her life. Grandchildren, Sara Dobson, Sean Dobson, Chloe Dobson and Owen Dobson.
Donna retired from the City of Roswell Fire Department after 29 years of dedicated service. She started her career as the secretary for the city Fire Marshall and went on to become the first female Fire Education Specialist in Fulton County. Donna was the first female EMT for the Department and retired as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief in 2010. During her time with the fire department, she not only worked her Monday – Friday job, but she would also respond after hours to bring refreshments and food to the firefighters when needed. Donna was everyone's work mom and friend and her door was always open. Homemade banana pudding, lemon icebox pies and her famous pound cake were her specialties and often requested for department functions.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5-8 pm and Thursday from 10-11 am
Donna's service will be held at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11 am.
Interment will be directly following the service at Green Lawn Cemetery, 10993 Alpharetta Highway, Roswell and all are welcome.
