Dorothy Evelyn Mullin McKee Powers passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Cumming, Georgia. She was born on October 20, 1922, the youngest child of John Walter and Beula Violet (Bettis) Mullin on the family farm southwest of Seymour, Iowa.
She confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Antioch Church of Christ on July 26, 1936. She attended Antioch country school and Sewal school.
On October 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Doyle Lorn McKee. In April 1942, Doyle was called to serve his country. Dorothy moved to Burlington, Iowa and worked at the Ordnance plant. After Doyle returned the couple welcomed a son, Ardylene Dwight, on May 3, 1946. They purchased their first home in Numa, Iowa. In 1954 they moved to Filer, Idaho and welcomed a daughter, Sandra Lee, on July 25, 1955. They enjoyed fishing and weekends at their cabin in the Saw Tooth Mountains. The family moved back to Iowa in 1962. Doyle passed away on January 2, 1964.
On August 18, 1968, Dorothy married Raymond V. Powers. They made their home in Centerville, Iowa. They enjoyed many weekends camping and boating at Lake Rathbun. Dorothy was an active member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church, teaching and attending Sunday school and working in the food pantry. She spent many happy hours with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. After Raymond retired, they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona until 1995. Raymond passed away on November 6, 2006.
In 2011, Dorothy moved to Georgia to be closer to her daughter. She was able to live independently and attend Union Hill Baptist Church until age 95. In 2019, she brought her kindness and faith to the community at Cumming Health and Rehab where she spread joy to everyone around her. Even at 100 years old she participated in their bell choir Christmas concert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her son Ardylene and his wife Linda, her great granddaughter Maura Keilman; her siblings Carl (Irene) Mullin, Margery (Edward) Weiler and Claris Mullin; Doyle's siblings Floyd (Marie) McKee, Jack (Joy) McKee, Perry (Neva) McKee, Maxine Adams and KoaLee (Arlene) McKee; Raymond's children Lynn (Steve) Starchevich and Larry Powers.
She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Kevin) Tracy; grand-daughters Sheri (Tim) Shore, Renee Tracy, Sheila (Evan) McBrayer, and their families; Raymond's grandchildren Kelly (Kirk) Culver, Stephenie (Tim) Mattly, Hope (Tod) Faris, Rickey Powers, Marty (Misty) Powers, Tara Powers, Bridget Powers, and their families. Sisters-in-law Jean Mullin and Irene Arbogast, along with many nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends. Her century of life was a blessing to us all. Graveside service will be sometime early summer of 2024 in Seymour, Iowa. Memorial donations can be made to the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, Iowa.
