Douglas Lee Johnston, 83, of Milton, GA, met his Savior on March 4, 2026. In addition to his family, Doug loved four things, in this order: Jesus, The U.S. Army, Charlotte, NC, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Doug was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the "Queen City", in 1942. At just 11 years old, he made history as the youngest Eagle Scout at that time in the United States.
Doug attended the First Baptist Church of Woodstock. He graduated from Northside High School, University of Georgia, and Emory Law School. During 1967-1969, Doug proudly served as a legal officer in the U. S. Army, holding the rank of Captain.
After practicing law for many years, Doug combined his legal background with a strong talent for sales, building a successful career with Wells Real Estate.
When Doug and Lynne married in 2001, they made a promise that they would grow old together, not grow up together.
For the past 30 years, Doug has served as a Gideon. His favorite Gideon ministry work was visiting the Smyrna City Jail each Wednesday night, speaking to the prisoners about how they could find hope and life in Jesus.
Doug is preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Branan Johnston, and his younger brother, Tim Johnston. Doug is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynne Wisdom Johnston, and his sister, Gerri Lyn Johnston Buice. Doug is also survived by his three children, Douglas Lee Johnston, Jr., Joanna Johnston Smith, and Branan McLeod Johnston. Doug was the proud grandparent of seven grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Northside Chapel. There will be no visitation held prior to the start of service or reception to follow per the family's wishes. Those wishing may make a donation to The Gideons Int'l.
