Betty Jean, lovingly known as BeeGee, was born in Canton, Georgia on October 16, 1929 to Erastus R. and Maude Irene Purcell Greene of Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Thomas Wendell Greene of North Augusta, South Carolina, and a great grandson, Ezra Lawrence Anderson of Greenville, South Carolina. She is survived by her sister, Jo Greene Keri of Acworth, Georgia; her children, Donna Anderson Washington (John) of Bogart, Georgia, Gil Anderson (Lynne) of Greenville, South Carolina, and Kyle Anderson of Woodstock, Georgia. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Amy Washington, Rachel Anderson (Mike) Leach, Deanna Washington, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Anderson, Mark Washington, Elizabeth Anderson (Yensel) Carcamo, Rebekah Washington, and Bethany Washington (Ryan) McEnaney. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren.
One summer day, BeeGee met Ormand Anderson at the Varsity while he was playing football for Georgia Tech. They married in 1955. Bee Gee faithfully stood beside him through his years as a football coach and as an educator. She worked hard at being the best wife, mom, grandmother and role model she could possibly be. Everyone she met loved her. In fact, she maintained friendships even with her fellow kindergarteners. BeeGee was a kind and generous person who lived simply, modestly, and frugally. She would never claim to be a great cook, but some of the meals she cooked are still her children's favorites. She desired as much time with her children as they could possibly give her, and that was true until her last breath. She thrived on family gatherings at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, birthdays, and just fun weekends, yet she highly valued personal, one-on-one time with her children and grandchildren. Many family memories were made around a campfire in state and national parks here in the east or out west in the Rockies! Most importantly, she was a believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today she is a personal witness of His glory and His kingdom because of her faith in Him from an early age. We can only imagine what she has experienced in heaven by now! After a long and very blessed life, she passed away peacefully in her daughter's home.
