Elizabeth Pearl Towater passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025 in the home of her son, surrounded by family, in Milton, Georgia. She was born February 8, 1945, in Brownsville, Tennessee to Mabel Barden and W.L. Williams, now deceased.
She was a 1964 graduate of Haywood County High School in Brownsville, and she received her Bachelor's degree from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee in 1968. She later received her Masters' degree from Western Kentucky University.
Liz married Glen Harold Towater, Jr. in 1967. She started her teaching career at the Rosenwald High School in Trenton, Tennessee, and she continued teaching at Fort Knox, Kentucky where she taught the GED program to soldiers. When Glen left the Army, they relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where Liz was an outstanding science teacher at Fern Creek Middle School, Durrett High School and Southern Middle School.
After Glen was transferred to Winfield, Illinois for work, Liz wanted to remain active in the school system, so she ran for the West Chicago District 33 Board of Education and won. There, she continued to have an influence on children's education.
Liz and Glen subsequently moved to Alpharetta, Georgia where she spread her wings and had a second successful career with AT&T.
Liz was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She had many outstanding qualities. At Thanksgiving, Christmas, family gatherings, or any social event, Liz always made sure everyone was included in the conversation. There were many people near and dear to her heart, but none more so than her children and grandchildren, and she was always happy to tell you about them!
In 2023, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which was the ultimate cause of her death.
Liz is survived by her husband, her daughter Elizabeth Ashley Schubert (Kevin); son Glen Harold Towater, III (Laura); grandchildren Caden Michael Schubert, Kaylee Elizabeth Schubert, Glen Harold Towater, IV, Bruin William Towater, and Mattie Rose Towater; sisters Eva Frances Kuykendall (John David), Wilma Lanette Pratt (Bobby), Brenda Kay Weaver (Bill), and Linda Susan Floyd (John). She is also survived by sisters in-law Louise Towater Lynch and Rita Faye Rutherford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. Liz had chosen cremation, and an additional remembrance service will be held at Latham's Chapel Baptist Church in Milan, Tennessee, at a later date.
