Ellen Vivian Macris Young, 75, passed away on April 17, 2026. She was born on January 8, 1951, in Zakynthos, Greece and moved to Alpharetta, Georgia on May 21, 1956. She was among the first students to attend the newly opened Alpharetta Elementary School and later graduated from Milton High School in 1968. She spent most of her life in North Georgia and most recently resided in Canton, Georgia.
Ellen was the beloved wife of Thomas Gregory "Greg" Young, with whom she shared a loving marriage since September 7, 1974. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Rena Johnson (Jason), and her son, David Young (Ameera).
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Zack, Tyler, and Jared Johnson and Ronin Young. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she especially loved spoiling her grandsons. She spent countless happy hours watching them play baseball and found special joy in watching and listening to Zack play music. She was especially overjoyed to welcome her youngest grandson, Ronin, who arrived many years after the others and brought her so much happiness over the past three and a half years.
Ellen is also survived by her brother Bobby Macris and sister-in-law Dorothy, as well as her nephew Daniel, niece Christy, and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Irene Macris.
Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, Ellen had a gift for making people laugh. She devoted many years to childcare, where she lovingly helped raise and care for many children who were fortunate to know her. She also had a deep love for flowers and gardening and took great pride in her beautiful plants, which reflected the care and joy she brought to everything she did.
Ellen will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and her deep love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 3431 Trickum Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
