Obituary

Mr. F. Wallace "Wally" Hargrove of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023. Wally was born on January 30, 1948 in Milledgeville, Georgia, son to the late Fermor and Mattie Beall Hargrove, and younger brother to the late Sue Nash.
Wally grew up a smalltown kid before moving to Athens, where he married the love of his life, the late Melody Lyford, at the University of Georgia. The marriage was blessed with two children, Scott and Tyler. Melody and Wally celebrated 52 years of marriage last November and together with Scott and Tyler growing up, created a happy and loving household.
An avid sports lover, he never missed a UGA home football game (season ticket holder for over 40 years) or a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game on TV. He loved live music and a good laugh. If a Beatles song came on, it was inevitable that he would sing and clap along. Never taking life too seriously, he illustrated the mantra of his father, who would often say "no matter what you do, always find something to laugh about."
Wally was an Army veteran, having fought in the Vietnam War in the early 70's. He took great pride in serving his country and shared the upmost respect for all members of our armed forces throughout his life.
He was kind and mild mannered, and never met a stranger. He loved his family, friends and pets dearly. Later in life, he glowingly embraced the role of "Pop" to his two granddaughters, Sarah Kate and Ella. A fond, recent memory we share is of him crawling through a small tunnel made for kids at the Atlanta Zoo simply because five-year-old Sarah Kate asked him to.
He is survived by his two loving sons: Scott Hargrove and Tyler Hargrove; daughter-in-law Stephanie Hargrove; sister-in-law Sherry Garcia; two grandchildren: Sarah Kate Hargrove (8) and Ella Hargrove (7 months); and many friends.
Burial service for Wally Hargrove will take place at 10am on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Green Lawn Cemetery at 10993 Alpharetta Hwy. Roswell, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Azlheimer's Association in Wally's name.
