Florence Burek (Marcotte), age 100, of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, peacefully at home. Florence was born on August 2, 1922, in the French-speaking town of Chelmsford, Ontario, the daughter of the late Melchior and Eglantine Marcotte.
After college, Florence worked as a teacher and later for the Canadian government in Ottawa, ON. She married the love of her life, Edward Burek, in Chelmsford on July 13, 1953. They started their life together in Buffalo, NY, and had four sons and then two daughters: Michael Burek (wife Amy), of Charlotte, NC; Denis Burek (wife Joan), of Cumming, GA; Robert Burek (wife Sally), of Lagrange, GA; Ronald Burek, of Eugene, OR; and daughters Claire Johnson, of Leawood, KS; and Jackie Bowman (husband Al), of Cumming, GA. She loved her beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Nicholas, Anton, Owen, Victor, Nicolle, Jessica, and Heather. Florence dedicated her life to her family.
The family moved from Buffalo, NY to Omaha, NE, and finally settled in Johns Creek, GA, in 1986, where she was an active member of Saint Brigid Catholic Church. Florence loved her faith and was a true child of God. She prayed the Rosary and read Mass readings daily. Florence and her husband had the unique experience as founding Parishioners in three Roman Catholic churches: St Gregory the Great in Buffalo NY, St. Benedict in Duluth GA and St. Brigid in Johns Creek GA. She loved the many friendships she formed throughout the years, and the community at Saint Brigid and their priests held a special place in her heart.
Florence deeply loved her husband, Edward, as she often said she had the "best husband". They cherished their time together and enjoyed traveling in their later years. They planned to celebrate their seventieth wedding anniversary this summer.
Along with her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her seven siblings, Raymonde St. Denis, Aurore Marcotte, Yvonne Marcotte, Horace Marcotte, Alphonse Marcotte, Ernest Marcotte, and Aurlien Marcotte.
A memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 am at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 3400 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek, GA. A reception will follow the memorial Mass.
