Dr. Frederick Donald Fraser, age 80, of Canton, Georgia passed away April 9, 2023 at his home with his loving wife, Malinda Joyce Lolley. Fred was born in New York, New York on October 31, 1942 to the late William Fredrick Fraser and Stella Bailey. Fred was the first born of three children—Robert Fraser and Terri Fraser. Fred and his family moved to Philadelphia at age three where they lived modestly until Fred was 14 years old. Fred's father served proudly in the US Navy. His mother was a part-time store clerk and full-time homemaker. It was during those critical years that Fred began a lifetime relationship with God that carried him throughout the rest of his Journey. It was also in Philadelphia that Fred discovered his other two loves—baseball and academia.
Fred often recalls the story of the middle-school teacher who pulled him aside and affirmed that he was smart enough to pursue any career that he chose and did not need to rest solely on his athletic ability. During those formative years he spent his time on the baseball field, on the basketball court, in a quiet corner studying for school, and occasionally appearing as a dancer on the American Band Stand with Dick Clark.
However, it wasn't on the dance floor that he met his one true love, it was in the pews of a small church in Hollywood, Florida where the Fraser family was living by the time Fred was in high school. As the star pitcher of the Macarthur High School Cougar Varsity team, Fred had the attention of many. But only one caught his eye—Malinda Joyce Lolley. Malinda and Fred began dating her sophomore year and they spent hours riding around in his cowhide upholstered Plymouth sharing milkshakes, laughs, and stories based in a shared faith that would unite them forever. Their romance flourished and was sealed with a kiss on Malinda's sixteenth birthday.
Fred and Malinda married in 1963 shortly before he earned his Bachelors in Math Education from Florida State University. The couple had three kids Janet Dianne Fraser (May 16 1965); Karen Michelle Fraser (August 30, 1967); and Amy Suzanne Fraser; (March 5, 1970). As a young father, Fred pursued his career in Mathematics, then later earned his Master's Degree in School Counseling from the University of Florida and graduated with Honors in 1969. He earned his final degree—a PHD in Psychology from the University of Missouri 1973. The young family lived most of their lives in Coconut Creek. Florida and Dothan, Alabama.
Malinda and Fred relocated to the Alpharetta area in 1990 where they have served in a variety of professional, mental health related capacities such as founding the Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church Counseling Center; serving in local Nursing Homes as a regular psychological consultant; and counseling in private practice in the Alpharetta and Canton Community—where Linda still resides.
Fred enjoyed spending time with family, watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in various activities, listening to praise music, being in nature, visiting Gulf Shores, and conversing for hours with any of his kids, grandchildren, or other family and friends who needed support or just a listening ear. He was always at the ready with an encouraging word, a humorous anecdote for a friend or a stranger. The individuals he touched are too many to measure and he will be missed greatly. He is survived by his adoring wife, two of his loving daughters; his two devoted Grandsons Kody Alan Gomillion, and Ezekiel Alan Fuqua; and his loving granddaughters Kendall Michelle Fuqua and Elizabeth Fraser Browning. The family mourns the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather—Frederick Fraser-- but are comforted in knowing that Fred is now in heaven with his loving daughter Janet Fraser and the other family members he loved. And greater, still is the comfort, that he will be reunited with all his loved ones in God's time.
