Alpharetta

Obituary

Gail Marie Gibson, 86, of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away on September 29, 2026, after a brave battle with kidney cancer. She was born and raised on the upper east side of Cleveland, Ohio. She often spoke fondly of that city childhood, including streetcar rides with her mother to the 25th Street Market. Gail attended John Marshall High School, where she and her girlfriends formed a social club they named Siotai. She remained close to many of those women into their late 70s and early 80s. Gail looked forward to, and often planned, their annual trips together, when they would play games, tell old stories, and laugh until they could not stop. She entered Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1957. On a blind date her freshman year she met the love of her life, David Gibson, who was home on a short leave from the Navy. They married in June 1959 and shared 67 years together. The couple spent 21 years raising their children in Wadsworth, Ohio, then lived in New Jersey and Virginia, spent 30 years on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina, and later made their home with their daughter in Alpharetta, Georgia. Gail was a homemaker who devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Gardening was her passion. Her favorite outdoor hours were spent planting her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved birds and spent many years photographing and framing her favorites. She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche Marie “Midnight” MacNellis and John Edgar MacNellis, and by her brother, Jack MacNellis. Gail is survived by her husband, David Gibson, of Alpharetta, Georgia; her sons, Craig Brady and his wife, Mary, of Blairsville, and Mark David Gibson of Blairsville; her daughter, Stacey Marie DiMarco and her husband, Thomas, of Alpharetta; her grandsons,David and Dylan Gibson; and her granddaughters, Lauren Gibson, Jillian DiMarco, and Danielle DiMarco. At her husband’s wish, Gail’s ashes will remain with David until his passing. They will then be laid to rest together at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, kidneycancer.org/ways-to-give, or by phone at 800-850-9132. Gifts may also be made to KidneyCAN at kidneycan.org.
