Obituary

Gary Eugene Bennett, 77, of Canton, Georgia, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Pop), great-grandfather (Pop-Pop), and friend to all whose greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Alpharetta (Hopewell Community), Georgia, Gary graduated from Milton High School with the Class of 1967. He proudly served his country as a Specialist E-5 in the United States Army Combat Engineers during the Vietnam War, from June 6, 1968, to June 25, 1970.

Gary loved being active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He coached baseball, football, and softball and could be found whistling from the sidelines at his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working in his garden and was a talented craftsman who made beautiful wooden bowls to gift to family and friends. He found tremendous happiness working and spending time at his farm. One of his greatest joys was taking his entire family to St. George Island, Florida, every Fourth of July, creating lifelong memories.

Gary was a dedicated businessman and took great pride in his work. He owned and operated Rite-Way Foundations and Midway Grading, Hauling, and Flatwork for nearly 40 years. He leaves behind a legacy built on hard work and dedication.

Above all, Gary treasured his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Brenda Bennett; his daughter, Brandy Banyas (Brad), and their children: Connor Banyas, Madeline Andujar (Grant), Cason Gary Banyas (Lauren), and Michael Banyas; his son, William Gary Bennett ("Billy"), and his children: William Gary Bennett II, Lucie Bennett, and Calvin Bennett. Gary is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Emory Banyas and Elliott Banyas, the children of Cason and Lauren Banyas.

Gary will be remembered for his love of family, his love of country, his generosity, incredible work ethic, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. He had a giving heart and was always willing to help others.

He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
