Georgene (Georgee) Adele Hesse reached her lifetime goal on the morning of April 30, 2023 when she left this earth to be with Jesus in heaven. Georgee was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 26, 1942, the first of three children. While she spent over half her life in St. Louis, she also lived in Los Angeles in her 20s, and retired to Florida (Tallahassee and Jacksonville) before finally ending up in Hickory Flat, GA (outside of Atlanta) to be near family.
Georgee received her bachelors degree in education from Washington University, her Masters degree in Secondary School Administration from University of Missouri St. Louis and did post graduate work at Eden Theological Seminary in Pauline Studies and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in Environmental Studies. She worked for the Rockwood School District in St. Louis County Missouri for 25 years as a physical education teacher, primarily at Lafayette High School, but also at Marquette High School. During her career she advised drill team, coached basketball and tennis and worked many talent shows and sporting events at the high schools. Coach Hesse touched the lives of many students and was often recognized outside of school when she lived in the St. Louis area. In addition, she spent many of her summers supervising lifeguards at local pools. For several of her retirement years she worked for Publix Supermarkets, custom framed art and made and sold soap.
Georgee was an active volunteer wherever she lived, often serving on homeowners' boards, at schools and at numerous other civic organizations. She was an avid baker known for providing baked Christmas cheer to all those who served her - from doctors to mail personnel. She was also a master gardener who volunteered at Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee. Georgee was an active participant in whichever church she attended and had a life-long passion for studying the Bible. She loved being outdoors, whether in her garden or with family at the beach. She was happiest when near God's fabulous creations.
Georgee is survived by her brother and sister in law, G. Oliver and Joan Stone, and her sister and brother in law, Louise and Ralph Hartung. She leaves behind a legacy of service and faith in her children and their spouses, Debby and Joe Scerno and Doug and Nancy Hesse, as well as her grandchildren - Jason, Xen and Willow.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Vinebranch chapel of Alpharetta Methodist Church (69 N Main Street, Alpharetta, GA) on September 16, 2023 at 4 pm. The service will be live-streamed at:
