Georgia Atchison Rigg, "Gigi," a long-time resident of Alpharetta, Georgia, died on February 15, 2025 at the age of 100. She passed away while a resident of Addington Place of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Georgia was born in Denver, Colorado, and met her husband, Robert E. Rigg, while he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver during World War II. They married in 1949 and raised three daughters while living in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and then Georgia.
Georgia was preceded in death by her mother Ella (Bierman) Atchison, her father, George D. Atchison, her sister Ruth and brother-in-law Richard Williams, and her husband Robert E. Rigg.
Georgia was a woman of many skills. At different times in her life, she worked as a violin teacher and in secretarial capacities at a variety of firms. She is best known, however, as the loving and respected matriarch of her family — mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was known to her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Gigi," and soon even her adult friends came to call her by that loving nickname.
Gigi was a positive person and a light-giving person to be around. She looked on the positive, but didn't deny that life was filled with challenges and even heart breaks. Because of her attitude, she was a real people magnet. Everyone who knew her loved her and fed off of her humble, and charming positivity.
Her cremains will be interred next to the grave of her husband in a private family service at Floral Hills memory Gardens.
She is survived by her children: Jody Clapper (Greg Clapper), Jill Szabo (Joe Szabo), and Julie Lippitt (Rick Lippitt); her grandchildren: Laura Clapper (Fred Feng), Jenna Staples (Dave Staples), Marshall Szabo (Jessica Szabo), Kennedy Schmidt (Allen Schmidt), Matthew Jordan (Erin Jordan), Ryan Lippitt (Ashley Lippitt); and great-grandchildren: Sunny Szabo, Wesley Szabo, Charlotte Szabo, Kai Schmidt, Mabry Schmidt, Nico Staples, Ani Staples, and Zadie Feng.
