Gilbert Carl Phillips, 87, of Flowery Branch, passed away on November 15, 2023. Gilbert was born on November 15, 1936 to Carl Jasper and Connie Hudson Phillips in Brookhaven, GA. After Gilbert graduated from Milton High School in 1954, he and Myra were married December 31, 1955.
Shortly after his marriage to Myra, Gilbert left to serve his country with the US Army, stationed in France & Spain. Gilbert and Myra had three children. After the birth of their third child, they moved to Nashville, TN where Gilbert attended John A. Gupton College obtaining a degree in Mortuary Science. Gilbert served the North Fulton community for over 40 years providing funeral services to many in the roles of Funeral Director at Louie E. Jones Funeral Home in downtown Alpharetta and Northside Chapel in Crabapple. Gilbert was a strong man of faith, who led by example to all who knew him. He was an active member of his church and served as a deacon, a member of the choir and other leadership roles.
In his retirement, Gilbert still provided funeral services to his community, volunteered with the North Gwinnett Co-Op and enjoyed his time with family.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his bride, Myra Phillips, his sisters, Eldred Murdock and Sylvia Rampley. Gilbert is survived by his sister Brenda Jordan (William Jordan), his daughter Sherrie Phillips, his sons Gil Phillips (Christine Phillips) and Cary Phillips (Kim Phillips), his grandchildren Kyle Phillips (Emily Phillips), Patrick Phillips (Michelle Phillips), Zach Phillips (Tammy Phillips), Jacob Phillips and Sarah Phillips. Gilbert is also survived by his great-grandchildren Rollins Phillips and Bennett Phillips and many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 25th from 2pm-5pm and Sunday, November 26th from Noon-2pm at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA. Service will be held at Northside Chapel, Sunday, November 26th at 2pm. Internment in Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the North Gwinnett Co-Op, an organization Gilbert volunteered with for many years.
