On Sunday, July 14th, 2024 we lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle,
Gregory A Sulhoff. Greg passed away after a valiant 15 month fight with pancreatic cancer, at
the age of 73.
Greg grew up in California with his parents and two sisters. In school Greg, a natural athlete,
was on the basketball, baseball and golf teams. He graduated from UCLA in Los Angeles, and
after graduation traveled, living in Hawaii, Colorado and eventually moving to Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1976, Greg met, and fell in love with his wife Mindy, while living in the same apartment
complex. They married in Florida in 1977, and spent 46 wonderful years together. They started
a family with their daughter, Tiffany, in 1982, and son, Brett, in 1986. He loved being a Dad,
coaching the sports teams, attending the special events at school, and taking adventure hikes
on Sundays to name a few. As a family they shared a lifetime of happy experiences, and loving
memories.
With his creative and artistic nature, Greg found his way into the home building industry, where
he would work for over 45 years. He was never afraid of a physical challenge and no matter
how big the job, never afraid to do the work himself. Greg designed and built houses all over the
Atlanta area including the home where he and his wife still lived. All of his business came from
referral, as his clients loved his creativity and commitment to quality. Greg was the hardest
working man you could ever know, with a vast knowledge of the construction industry. Leaving
for work when the sun came up and coming home when the sun went down.
Greg loved sports, and enjoyed being part of a team. No matter the sport, he was competitive,
and always challenged himself to be at the top. In Atlanta, he played ALTA tennis for years, and
thought nothing of being on the courts for hours. He loved playing tennis or golf all morning,
then retiring to a bar in the afternoon with the team to drink beer and swap stories. At a party,
sporting event, or gatherings with friends, you would generally find Greg with a group of guys,
telling stories, debating topical issues, and breaking into booming laughter. He was just that
person you wanted to be around.
As he got older, when he wasn't on a jobsite he could be found doing projects around his own
home or for his family. Greg was kind and strong, and the first to jump in and help those he
cared about. He enjoyed drinking beer, spending time with his family and watching sports,
movies or HGTV. He was extremely intelligent, and loved a good debate. No matter his feelings,
he was an expert at playing devil's advocate for no other reason than a good debate, typically
much to the frustration of the opponent. For Greg it was all in fun. He was always light hearted
and had a laugh that made you want to laugh with him.
In recent years, Greg loved being a Grandfather. Seeing his grandchildren weekly, and never
missing an event, holiday, or family vacation. To his grandkids, Grandpa could do anything! So
when anything broke at their house from a lightbulb to something major, his grandkids could be
heard saying "it's okay, Grandpa will fix it".
In the Spring of 2023 while going in for pre-op testing for hip replacement, Greg was diagnosed
with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Greg loved life and outlived most of his doctors expectations.
He endured months of chemotherapy, and still kept his independence up till the end of 2023
when they learned the chemo was no longer working. Staying strong, he was willing to try any
treatment they offered that would give him more time, no matter how bad the side effects. He
continued this way until they had exhausted all treatment options. Keeping his illness from most,
Greg never wanted anyone to feel bad for him or see him differently. On July 14th, after
returning home from a family beach vacation, he passed away suddenly in his home from
complications of cancer.
Greg is survived by his wife, Mindy Banks Sulhoff; children, Brett Sulhoff and Tiffany Sulhoff
Peeler; son in law, Brad Peeler; grandchildren: Addison, Josslyn and Colton Peeler; siblings:
Wendy Erickson and Melanie Hamilton; and nieces: Colby Freer, Nicole and Megan Hamilton.
