Gwendolyn Jackson Lindsey born March 11, 1932 in Macon, Georgia passed away on December 4, 2024 in Roswell, Georgia. Mom married Almont Edward Lindsey, Jr. (Monty) on April 11, 1953 and remained married to him until his death on November 28, 2020. Together they had four children; Cathy, Al (Bo), Gwen (Sputy) and Irene (Rene), twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren who all loved them so very much.
Monty and Gwen were the consummate team who enjoyed a wonderful life: loving, working and traveling together for sixty-seven years. There were many adventures, lots of laughter, playfulness and a spirit of optimism and strength. After they decided to return to graduate school, Mom obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education and pursued a rewarding teaching career for several years while supporting Dad in several business ventures, the last of which was establishing a new CPA firm in Roswell. She worked in the firm through her mid-eighties before finally retiring to care for Dad.
In her later years, Mom became a Stephens Minister, counseling those in need of a kind voice and a reassuring manner. She remained active in Northbrook Methodist Church for many years, listening to services in her home when she became unable to attend in person. Mom and Dad traveled to many countries including Scotland, Thailand, China and Italy where they attended several operas, one of their shared passions.
Mom had a kind, gentle and loving spirit, full of curiosity and generosity. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to read. Above all, Mom was a lady, refined, elegant and dignified and she lived a long, full and graceful life. She was the best mother one could ever have. We miss her.
A celebration of life service for Gwen will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11am at Northbrook United Methodist Church.
