Mr. Hampton Wynne Logan Jr., age 83, passed away Monday September 28, 2026. Hampton was born on November 2, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hampton was a second-generation Atlanta native, growing up near Emory and attending Druid Hills high school where he met his lifelong partner, Ellen Martin. After attending Georgia Tech, he remained an avid rambling wreck fan despite Ellen, and eventually all three of his children, being University of Georgia graduates. Hampton and Ellen married shortly after graduating college and welcomed their daughters Stephanie and Ashley to their lives and several years later their son Austin completed their family.
Hampton’s early career put his biology and engineering education to work with jobs at a chemicals company and Lockheed Martin’s early generation C-130 airplane projects. He eventually found his way back to his father’s affinity for construction and real estate where he spent the majority of his life developing small neighborhoods in the north Atlanta area.
Outside of his family, his passions were hunting and fishing. He was known to throw a line in the Chattahoochee river in the early hours of the morning before starting work and often return from the hunting camp way too late on a Sunday during deer season.
Hampton never met a stranger. In fact, if you tried to be a stranger, he wouldn’t let you get away until you weren’t one anymore. Whether in a crowd at a busy neighborhood party or on a quiet empty beach, he was able to make conversation with anyone about any topic. His jovial and kind demeanor quickly disarmed even the grumpiest curmudgeons. Hampton also had seemingly immeasurable patience, especially with his children, remaining cool and collected in even the most stressful and chaotic times. The only situation that could break his calmness was a bad traffic day on I-285 to which he would quickly divert his driving path to the most errant and confusing side roads that only a true Atlanta-born boy would know.
Hampton’s personality and kindness will forever be remembered by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Logan; his three children Stephanie Martin, Ashley Logan and Austin Logan as well as six grandchildren.
The funeral service for Hampton will take place on Monday October 5th 2026 at 2:30 PM ET at the Alpharetta Methodist Church at 69 N Main St, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Following the service, there will be a reception with the family at the church. He will later be buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton, GA with immediate family members in attendance.
