Hazel Archer Fouts, 87, of Alpharetta, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Hazel was born in England, Arkansas, on January 8, 1938, to Ada and Arthur Archer. The youngest of six children, she grew up surrounded by the love of a close-knit family. As a teenager, Hazel and her family moved to North Little Rock.
Shortly after completing her education at North Little Rock High School, Hazel embarked on what would become a 40-year career in banking. Around the same time, she met Mark Fouts, a young man from Roswell, Georgia, stationed nearby with the U.S. Air Force, and just six months later, in November 1957, they were married.
After beginning their married life in Arkansas, Hazel and Mark relocated to Georgia, settling in Alpharetta, where they raised their 3 daughters and became active members of First Baptist Alpharetta and in the community. Hazel worked at the only bank in Alpharetta at the time, and over the decades, she rose through the ranks from bank teller to Vice President, retiring in 2005 from Regions bank. She served on the board of several charitable organizations and was always ready to help those in need.
Her greatest loves were her faith, her family and her Georgia Bulldogs. Hazel had unshakable faith in God, and she found joy in the fellowship of her Sunday School Class at Roswell First Baptist. She deeply loved her family and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, always cheering them on at their sporting events and taking joy in watching them grow up. Hazel was also a talented cook and a gracious hostess, known for creating warm and welcoming family gatherings that brought everyone together. Hazel seldom missed a Georgia football game and always wore her red and black on Saturdays in the fall.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Arthur Archer; her brother, Douglas Archer; and her sisters, Leona Bryant, Juanita Hankins, and Lois Guess.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Mark Fouts; daughters Nikki Fouts of Alpharetta, GA, Donna Wynett (Ben) of Canton, GA, and Marcie Suckow (Dan) of Milton, GA; grandchildren Lindsay Bowen (Andrew) of Woodstock, GA, and Ben Abbitt Wynett (Ella) of Boston, MA; bonus grandchildren Michal Scott (Brian) of Flowery Branch, GA, and Jamie Bauerkemper (Brad) of Atlanta, GA; great-grandson Anders Bowen; bonus great-grandchildren Walker Scott, Elle Bauerkemper, and Jack Bauerkemper; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Northside Chapel in Roswell, GA, with interment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, also in Roswell.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5:00–7:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Northside Chapel.
