Heyward M. Barton, age 85, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023. Heyward was born on September 04, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Claude and Lola Barton. He was the youngest of four children.
Heyward lived in Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs all of his life. He attended Fulton High School, graduating in 1956. Heyward met his wife, Jane Mays Barton, while attending school in Fulton County. They were high school sweethearts who married right out of high school in 1956 and have built their life together for 67 years. Together with Jane, they had two daughters, two grandsons, and two great grandchildren.
In his former years, he developed his own construction company, primarily offering drilling services for commercial buildings and developments. Later, he picked up on his passion for cars and turned to the automobile industry, selling cars for several large dealerships in the Atlanta area.
Heyward's priority was always his family. They were foremost on his mind throughout his life, always asking about each family member and offering advice and support in any way possible. In Jane and Heyward's early years with their two girls, Terry and Tracey, they spent many vacations and weekends camping and playing on the lake. The meals were always taken together, and Sunday's were reserved for Grandmother's house. Jane and Heyward took great pride in their home, Dad mastering the handy-man title and chief assistant to his wife, the gardener. He appreciated the beauty of his wife's flowers and enjoyed watching birds and other wildlife in and around their home.
Along with his parents, Heyward is preceded in death by his daughter, Terry, and his three siblings, Claude Jr., Annette Fisher, and Jack. He is survived by his wife, Jane, his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Jack Barton, his grandson, Jason Connell, his grandson and his wife, Justin and Alyssa Connell, and two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Nathan.
The visitation for Heyward will take place at 10:00 in the morning on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Northside Chapel at 12050 Crabapple Rd., Roswell, Georgia. The funeral service to honor the life of Heyward Barton will be at 11:00 in the morning following the visitation. A reception will follow the service at the Northside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to your favorite charity in honor of Heyward.
