Mrs. Irene L. Mooney, 87, of Roswell, died August 7, 2023. Irene was born in Painesville, Ohio to Louis and Elizabeth Lakatos. Irene married Calvin Mooney in 1958 and enjoyed a wonderful 48-year marriage. Irene retired from BellSouth after more than 33 years of service but continued her love of volunteering as an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, serving as President of the BellSouth Georgia Chapter and the Lenox Life Member Club among other positions. Her dedication to volunteer service included proudly serving the USO, Angel Flight, Barefoot Ranch, and the American Parkinson Disease Association among many other projects. Irene was happiest when spending time with family and friends and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is rejoicing now with angels but will continue to live in our hearts forever. Irene is survived by her daughter, Dawn and Mark Olpin of Heber City, Utah, sons, David and Barbara Mooney of Roswell, GA and Douglas and Lee Ann Mooney of Gainesville, GA; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be Monday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m., Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Rd., Roswell, GA 30075. Pastor Jonathan Howes officiating.
