James Arthur Ellison, aged 69, passed away peacefully at his residence in Alpharetta, Georgia on August 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Mary Lee Brownfield, and their three children, Dan, Curt, and Katie.
Born in Rome, Georgia, Jimmy was the cherished son of Joan and James Ellison. He spent his formative years in Rome, attending West Rome High School where he forged lifelong friendships, and excelled as an offensive lineman for the Chieftains. Following his graduation, he pursued higher education at the University of Georgia, earning two accounting degrees that would lay the foundation for his successful career.
Jimmy embarked on his professional journey with Arthur Andersen, where he honed his skills and developed a deep passion for accounting. Later, he co-founded a prominent accounting firm, Kelley, Sammons, Toole, and Ellison, LLP, in Sandy Springs, Georgia, leaving an indelible mark on the local business community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jimmy found solace and joy in the great outdoors. A tremendous pleasure for him was taking his family to see as many national parks as possible. He relished attending sports events and concerts, finding immense gratification in the shared experiences. Whenever the Georgia Bulldogs were playing, Jimmy was there whether in person or not, cheering them on. His greatest joy, however, came from supporting his children in their athletic endeavors. An avid fisherman, Jimmy inherited his love for the sport from his father and spent countless hours casting lines in the serene waters of Apalachicola Bay, Florida.
At Northpoint Community Church,
Jimmy found a renewed spiritual fulfillment. For the past nine years, he was also a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous, taking strength in the fellowship. He took great pride in mentoring others who were struggling with alcoholism and addiction, offering guidance and support to those in need.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joan Ellison. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. His wife, Mary Lee Brownfield, stood as his steadfast partner throughout their journey together. Their three children, Dan (wife Chan), Curt (wife Hayley), and Katie Sage, will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. Jimmy also leaves behind three adored grandchildren, Vivienne, Lochlan, and Tallulah Ellison of Roswell. Additionally, he is survived by his former wife, Jody Ellison of Woodstock.
Jimmy Ellison will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his profession, and his commitment to helping others. His quick wit, warm smile, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The funeral will be held August 20, at 3 pm at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia, with visitation at 2 pm. The family kindly requests donations be made to Alcoholics Anonymous
or the National Kidney Foundation in Jimmy's honor.
