James (Jim) Hackney, age 78, of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023 in his home with his wife by his side.

Jim was born to the late William A. Hackney and Helen Scates Hackney on December 27, 1944 in Byington, TN.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and he had a long and fulfilling career as a postman with the United States Postal Service. He also enjoyed his time as a long-standing member of Alpharetta First Baptist Church. Yet, those who knew Jim knew that his true passion was gardening.

Jim is survived by his wife; Alice Hackney, children; Andy Hackney, Sam Hackney and Wayne Hackney, stepchildren; Dusty Turner, Casey Turner, Andy Turner, and Allison Clark, grandchildren; Alex Hackney, Ty Hackney, Colt Hackney, Piper Clark, Campbell Clark, Olive Turner, James Turner, and Clayton Turner.


The family will receive friends on Sunday June 25, 2023 1:30pm to 3pm, with a service to follow. Visitation and service will take place at Alpharetta First Baptist Church located at 44 Academy St, Alpharetta, GA 30009.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alpharetta First Baptist Church.
