Obituary

Jim Harrison passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023 with loved ones by his side.
Jim was born on September 19, 1943 in the Bronx, New York. He spent most of his high school years in a postulate preparing to become a religious teaching brother. He graduated from Rice High School in Manhattan. He spent one year at Hunter College in New York before joining the US Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was in the 1370th Photo Mapping Wing, spending a year in Ethiopia supporting the mapping of that country. After leaving the Air Force, he completed his college degree at NYU while also working at IBM. He spent 26 years with IBM in various positions including Customer Engineer supporting IBM's first online real time system connecting all of the sales branch offices. He helped create an application that controlled all IBM's manufacturing backlog. He spent two years in England supporting the IBM European central marketing order system. He returned to the US and worked as a program manager in US Manufacturing HQ. He moved to Atlanta in 1988 to work on the software development of an IBM Engineering application until he retired from IBM in1992.

Jim then started a second career performing management system audits against various international standards. He traveled approximately 47 weeks a year from 1993 through 2015. He performed audits as far east as Brussels, Belgium, as far west as Bangalore, India, as far south as Sao Paulo, Brazil, and as far north as Anchorage, Alaska. He enjoyed bringing value to the organizations using the standard requirements to help the organizations improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the way they ran their business. He also enjoyed learning the details of the manufacturing processes for many types of manufacturing businesses. After 2015, he reduced his auditing activity so that he and his wife could spend time traveling. He stopped auditing entirely in 2023.

He met the love of his life, Carolyn, in 1991 and they married in 1992. He appreciated her support while he was traveling so extensively performing his auditing jobs.

Jim loved traveling, reading, playing with their dogs, Patrick and Tyler, and playing Mexican train dominoes with family. He was known as a good cook with his appetizers, dinners and desserts. He always enjoyed having Carolyn commit him to do some cooking for others.

Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn; and his sister, Maureen Harrison. He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, Carolyn's extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Chris Dixon; his parents; his twin brother, John; and his brother, Tom.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
