James (Jim) William Murray: A Life Well-Lived

Jim Murray of Dawsonville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the age of 85 after a long and adventurous life.

Jim was many things — a devoted husband, father, and "Poppi"; a proud Navy veteran; and an alumnus of both Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia. His career was as storied as his travels, from somehow acquiring a WWII-era Rolex while stationed in the Middle East — a prized possession that rarely left his wrist (or his storytelling), hiring the Lone Ranger for an ad campaign, to earning a patent for poly snow in the 70's. Jim spent the majority of his career in marketing at Healthdyne/Matria Healthcare, where he left his mark in disease state management, specifically diabetes and high-risk pregnancies. Jim's life experiences will live on in the memories of all who knew and loved him.

One thing remained constant throughout Jim's life: whether he was globe-trotting with his wife and family or commandeering his pontoon boat on Lake Lanier, he loved discovering new places, meeting new people, and embracing every opportunity to live fully.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frida Murray; three daughters, Nicole Schwartz (Justin), Carla Williams (Clay), and Jessica Robertson (Josh); six grandchildren, Emma, Ansley, Chandler, Hannah, Will, and Kate; his brother, Joeseph "Joe" Wilson Murray and was preceded in death by his sister Chatham Murray.

Jim's wish was to celebrate his life with his immediate family to reminisce about the great (and funny) memories they had over his lifetime.

To honor Jim, keep exploring new places, share a story with someone you've just met, and savor life's simple pleasures — a good meal, a good laugh, and a great story — preferably with a margarita in hand or more recently, a vanilla Chick-fil-A milkshake with two straws.

Donations can also be made in Jim's honor to the Alzheimer's Association ( https://www.alz.org/ ).
