Obituary

Mr. Jim Bates, age 76, of Woodstock, Georgia passed away Monday, June 5, 2023. Jim was born on January 7, 1947, in Hot Spring, Arkansas, the son to the late Alvin John Bates and Ana Belle Bates.
Jim married the love of his life, Vivian Bates, in January 1966. Jim and Vivian loved each other dearly and shared a sacred marriage for 57 precious years. The marriage was blessed with two children, Arnold (Sherry) and Angela (William Glisson), and three grandchildren: Brennan Bates, Lauren Bates, and Emma Glisson. Jim is survived by his sister, Pat Ellis, of Woodstock, Georgia.
Jim was a most beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends, taking vacations, hunting trips, fishing trips, and especially telling of his life experiences and funny stories.
Jim has a rewarding career in the Nuclear Industry for over 40 years specializing in chemistry and health physics. He had a passion for his work and was respected greatly for his knowledge and ability throughout the United States and overseas.
After Jim's retirement, he helped refurbish a 17-unit condominium in Treasure Island, Florida and worked for Medical Imaging Solutions USA, LLC. As Director of Legal and Recruiting.
Although, his greatest joy was being a part of his granddaughters' lives. He helped Lauren take care of her barn and all her animals. He helped take care of Emma from the time she was a baby and helped homeschool her from the 4th through the 7th grade. He was always sharing his life and stories with Emma and Lauren which they will cherish forever.
His influence and love will always remain in the lives of family members and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at our cabin next door at 4346 Earney Road (residence) on June 24th at 6:00 PM. Casual dress and please no children under the age of 12 years. A shuttle service will be provided to accommodate appropriate parking from the shopping center at the end of Earney Road and Highway 140, which is less than a ¼ mile from the cabin. The family requests those who wish to make a memorial tribute to consider making a charitable donation to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
