Obituary

JoAnn Curnyn, age 91, of Alpharetta GA, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. She was surrounded by her three children as well as her beloved caregiver and family friend of many years, Vallene Henderson. She was a loving mother, a successful businesswoman, and a close friend to many.
JoAnn grew up in St. Louis MO. She attended public schools and upon graduating attended Purdue University where she met and married Richard E Kitterman. Richard and JoAnn moved to Charlotte NC where they began raising a family, ultimately moving to Greenville SC in 1970.
JoAnn moved to Alpharetta GA in 1983, where she began a very successful career in real estate sales and sales management before she retired in 2008. While in Alpharetta JoAnn met and soon married James Curnyn in 1986 and they were together until Jim's death in 2016.
JoAnn had many hobbies including travel and tennis, but the most important thing to her was family and a large group of close and wonderful friends. The secret to JoAnn's success both personally and in business was her desire to bring people together and build relationships. This was the hallmark of her legacy both in the real estate market as well as keeping her large family and friends close together and in touch.
JoAnn is survived by her three children, Stephen Hall Kitterman (Cathy) , Bradley Scott Kitterman (Maggie), and Karen K Gallagher all residing in Greenville South Carolina. Additionally, she leaves behind 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. JoAnn was predeceased by her parents, Virgil and Edith Brookman, as well as two brothers, Robert Brookman and Ronald Brookman all of St Louis Missouri.
