Larry Goar, age 82, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Saturday February 25, 2023. Larry was born in Tipton, Indiana, the son to Willard and Blanche Goar.
He moved to Florida as a teenager where he developed his love for basketball and Florida State University. He was a consummate FSU fan with season tickets to the football games and a wardrobe of garnet and gold. After college he joined the Air Force where he was assigned to Wethersfield AFB in Essex England. While there he met the love of his life, Dee. They married and enjoyed a (frugal) honeymoon trip through Europe igniting their lifelong love of international travel. They are blessed with three children; Bret, Sherry and Christy.
As a lover of his family and nature, Larry spent numerous family vacations in our national parks. He loved traveling to Switzerland and many other international locations. Much to his family's dismay, he could spend hours in any museum reading every word that could be found!
Larry served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war, achieved the rank of Colonel and served our country for 28 years. Afterward, he became the business administrator for Fellowship Bible Church (FBC). He served as an elder and the first care ministry pastor bringing Stephen Ministry to FBC. His love of Jesus and all people led to the inaugural Larry Goar Servant Leadership Award in 2015.
That Larry loved God was obvious in the way he lived his life. He was a humble, kind and generous soul who had a knack for connecting with people. He touched so many lives and his influence will forever remain in all who knew him.
Along with his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his sister, Judy. He is survived by his wife, three loving children, grandchildren Killian and Klein and his brother Doug.
The celebration of life for Larry will take place at eleven o' clock on Saturday March 4, 2023 at the Fellowship Bible Church at 480 West Crossville Road Roswell, Georgia. Encouraging Red white and blue attire. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to Fellowship Christian School.
