Obituary

Leonard Joseph Mazur, Sr., of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 87. Leonard was born on March 2, 1936 in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Anna and Leo Mazur.

He was an army veteran and served at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Leonard worked in the Lackawanna steel plant for more than 30 years and was an officer for the United Steelworkers Union 2603. He studied Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and had an impressive mind for mathematics and an ear for music. A lifelong pianist and virtuoso accordionist, Leonard mastered many instruments. He was a lover of puzzles and never met an appliance he could not fix.

Leonard was a resident of Lackawanna, NY. until 2003 when he and his loving wife, Rose, relocated to Alpharetta, GA. to be closer to family. An avid Bills fan, he brought the Buffalo culture down south with his fandom for football, hockey, and buffalo wings. He fostered his love for music by teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren to play the piano while entertaining family and friends with his melodies. Leonard enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, especially with his late brother, Dan Mazur, and spending time in the "mountains." He would often be seen walking the neighborhood with his transistor radio and greeting others with a friendly smile and a "Hey-a guy."

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Giambra) Mazur, their love and commitment to one another for 66 years was evident to all who met them; children, Lynn Cowart, Leonard Mazur, Jr. (Mary Jo); his sister, Bonnie Rauth; grandchildren, Shelbie (Marcus) Bauer, Emilio Mazur, Justin Cowart, Anthony (Kelly) Mazur; and great-grandchildren, Jameson Bauer, Caroline Bauer, and Trent Mazur (expected July 2023).
