Obituary

Linda Pomes Birkhoff of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 8, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Wilhemena Pomes.

Linda was married to Gerrit Birkhoff, with whom she shared two children, Cimi Birkhoff Douglass and Christopher Birkhoff. Known for her sense of humor, independent spirit, and creative talents, Linda was an avid crafter, quilter, crocheter, and rug maker, creating beautiful folk art pieces throughout her life. Linda saw art in everything around her. She would gaze at the clouds and find pictures in their shapes or discover figures in the patterns of tree bark. She had a unique way of seeing the world, always noticing things from a different artistic perspective.

Her love for animals was only surpassed by her deep love and affection for her grandchildren, Ty and Keely, who were her greatest joys and the reason she moved to Georgia.

As a devoted mother and grandmother, Linda was always ready for an adventure, whether crafting, baking, exploring thrift stores, or dancing to Fats Domino. She was actively engaged in the lives of those she loved.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit Birkhoff, and her siblings, Barbara Bice and Anthony Pomes. She is survived by her loving daughter, Cimi Douglass, her son-in-law Wynn Douglass, and her cherished grandchildren, Ty and Keely Douglass. She is also survived by her son, Christopher Birkhoff of Woodstock, Georgia and her youngest brother Joseph Pomes of Ranger, Georgia.

A celebration of Linda's life will take place at a later date. In accordance to her wishes, her remains will be scattered in in the North Georgia Mountains and the woods behind her home, a place she held dear and loved very much. Linda found peace in the woods and a deep connection to nature, often watching birds and deer in quiet reflection. She was deeply loved by her family and will be profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of the Alzhemer's Association. A tribute page in her name has been created. http://act.alz.org/goto/lindabirkhoff
