Margaret Frances Wood, of Alpharetta, went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2023. She was born on September 12, 1925 in North Fulton County to Homer and Dovie Weatherford. Frances grew up in Alpharetta, along with her three siblings, Louie Weatherford, Wynelle Hodges, and Curtis Weatherford.
She and her family lived simply and joyfully in rural North Fulton County and were lifelong members of Midway United Methodist Church, where she was baptized as an infant. She graduated from Milton High School and immediately went to work at the Bell Bomber Aircraft Company (which later became known as Lockheed Martin) where she helped assemble 663 B-29 aircrafts that were critical to the War World II efforts and victory.
Frances later met and married James Doyle Wood in 1945, and the Lord blessed them with three children: Norman David Wood, Sr. (who passed in 1998) ; Gloria Wynelle Nobles (Randy); and Steven Doyle Wood, Sr. (LeAnne), who gave them 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. Frances dearly loved her family and was a tremendous Christian model and influence in their lives till the very end.
Frances was a wife and stay-at-home mother for many years, attending to the needs of her family, but she later developed a career with the Sears Roebuck Co. where she eventually retired in leadership from the Northlake Mall location. In her retirement, she invested herself in the love and care of small children and continued to work caring for children until she was in her mid-80's.
Her life and legacy will forever be remembered, and her 97+ years following Jesus in this life will remain an inspiration to all who knew, admired and loved her.
A celebration of life for Margaret Frances Wood will be held at Northside Chapel on Wednesday, March 15 at 3:00pm. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to Midway United Methodist Church, 5025 Atlanta Hwy, Alpharetta, GA 30004.
